  13. FICHECK/MFICHECK  are  evaluation  versions.   The commercial version is
  14. XFICHECK - or super eXtended File Integrity Check.

  16. These are evaluation copies only.  You are invited to try these programs
  17. for 30 days  to get a  feel for the  quality you'll be  getting when you
  18. order our commercial version.  The price is only $15, but it's the  best
  19. $15 you could ever spend!

  23. Welcome to  the all  new (version  4.0) of  our File  Integrity Checking
  24. System!  If you're new to FICHECK/MFICHECK, simply turn on your  printer
  25. and enter the following on the DOS command line:
  26.  
  27.                         COPY  FICHECK4.DOC  PRN
  28.  
  29. This will print the documentation for version 4.0 of FICHECK/MFICHECK on
  30. your printer. 19 pages will  be printed (cover, announcements, table  of
  31. contents, and 16 numbered pages) - you'll need 20 pages available  since
  32. a form feed is the first character sent to the printer.

  34. YOU MUST READ THE DOCUMENTATION IN ITS ENTIRITY BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO USE
  35. ANY OF THESE PROGRAMS!

  39.         If you've used a previous version of FICHECK/MFICHECK:
  40.  
  41. You'll  still  need  to  print  and  read  the documentation - it's been
  42. completely re-written, and new features have been added!
  43.  
  44. Version 4.0 of FICHECK/MFICHECK is upward compatible with version 3.0 of
  45. FICHECK/MFICHECK - this  means you won't  have to re-create  any of your
  46. old logs (which was required for the upgrade from version 2.0 to 3.0).

  48.                     New features since version 3.0:
  49.  
  50. CRC (FICHECK)  and MCRC  (MFICHECK) are  now checked  and logged for the
  51. master  boot  record/partition  table  in  addition  to all the previous
  52. features.
  53.  
  54. Reports now include disk available space, increased/decreased disk space
  55. available since the  last time FICHECK/MFICHECK  was run, and  FAT (file
  56. allocation table) ID byte.
  57.  
  58. FICHECK/MFICHECK can check themselves for validity on request.
  59.  
  60. Screen can be changed to  force the elimination of background  color (on
  61. color monitors), and can be forced to work with nonstandard monitors.

  63. When Using your older, version 3.0 logs with this version (4.0), it will
  64. act just  like version  3.0 (except  that you'll  get a  message on  the
  65. report  stating  that  "disk  space/boot  record  info  report  is   not
  66. possible").  This message  is normal when  used with 3.0  logs, and will
  67. disappear when  you re-create  logs with  version 4.0  (which will  also
  68. activate the  new features).   Version 3.0  can also  work with  version
  69. 4.0's logs  because the  additional features  of version  4.0 are logged
  70. into a separate file.

  72.                         Fixes from version 3.0:

  74. The hard-coded blue background color for the screen caused the  internal
  75. wording to  be unreadable  on some  monochrome screens  - this  has been
  76. fixed  and  will  automatically  eliminate  the  blue  background when a
  77. monochrome screen is detected (automagically).

  79. When all files of a subdirectory have been deleted AND that subdirectory
  80. itself  was  removed,  files  within  that subdirectory were incorrectly
  81. reported as being deleted from its parent directory - fixed in ver 4.0

  85. A third help screen has been added when you start FICHECK/MFICHECK  with
  86. the "/help" option.
